Reports to:                                       Superintendent  and Principals              

 

Position Objective:

 

To provide each qualified student an opportunity to participate in such programs that will improve academic achievement, attendance, behavioral habits, and employment skills by coordinating resources of different programs and agencies to meet their needs and the needs of their family; to enhance a sense of worth and competence; and to enable them to be successful students.

       

Performance Responsibilities:             

 

  • Evaluates referral forms and conducts follow-up interviews with referred students.
  • Consults and cooperates with classroom teachers, principals, guidance counselors, nurses, and/or other school staff in assessing the home situation of the individual student.
  • Attends all required meetings.
  • Gathers information from home visits that will be useful in determining how best to meet the needs of students and parents relative to improving attendance and making the school experience more meaningful.
  • Communicates regularly with school staff regarding status of referred students.
  • Presents a positive image of the school to parents and conveys to them the school’s genuine concern with the education, growth, and development of each child.
  • Serves as a channel of communication for relaying the concerns, thoughts, and attitudes of parents to the school.
  • Works closely with health, welfare, and police agencies to coordinate all services.
  • Keeps complete, up-to-date, and accurate records as required by law, policy, and administrative procedures.
  • Stays current with federal regulations concerning homeless students
  • Assists the business manager with Impact Aid applications pertaining to Native lands.
  • Assists in verifying contracted mileage accounts.
  • Assists schools and families in transporting students home when needed.
  • Makes home visits when requested.
  • Assists with attendance verifications when requested.
  • Assists in delivering school documents to parents.
  • Maintains accurate record keeping.
  • Other duties as so assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Experience working with Native American and Hispanic students and families
  • Experience in an educational setting preferred
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal relation skills
  • Excellent time management skills
